When Saejima is faced with more jail time, Majima practically begs him not to leave, says that he’ll do all he can to try and prevent it. His reason for doing so is because, “ she means more to Kiryu-chan than life itself.” He’ll die to save either of them, because he finally has someone to care about again. He submits to torture and agrees to let Saejima kill him so that Haruka doesn’t get shot. Instead, he falls into the same self-sacrificing patterns, doing just about whatever Kiryu asks him to do. When Majima finds himself getting friendly with Kiryu, he stops trying to scare him off. After having to restrain himself for so long, playing the part Sagawa gave him, that he was able to finally be himself in front of men he respected must have been freeing. Lee and Nishitani, both integral parts of his Mad Dog persona, were huge losses.

He lost his brother (and sister), he lost the woman he cared about, and anyone he could consider a friend or ally. Since the events of 0, and even before that, he’s been alone. That brings us back to this Majima changed because he stopped needing to hide himself.

He’s willing to throw his life away for anyone he cares about, and it shows how little he worries about his own personal safety. He has a strong protective (one could even say paternal) instinct, coupled with absolutely no need for self preservation. Again, betraying the clan he’s worked so hard to get back into, putting himself at risk. I don’t have to tell you how much he cares for Makoto. He’s willing to die for Saejima, he says it himself. The whole time he’s in the pit, all he cares about is whether Saejima is okay.

He takes on a room full of armed men to try and escape and meet up with Saejima. We see it with Saejima, who he was willing to betray the clan for he ends up losing his eye, but still, he refuses to back down. That’s a key part of why he has to pretend to be unhinged. In fact, he tries his best to hide how much he cares, because more often than not it gets him into trouble. Majima is extremely sentimental, and he cares a lot. Even by the end of the story, when you find out he’s bought Makoto a replacement watch strap, something becomes very apparent… While he’s on his own, he’s extremely serious when he finds out that his family is being targeted, he’s angry and upset, acts on it immediately. He’s sombre, only playing up his Mad Dog act at the beginning when he crashes the meeting. He just won’t like it.Īnother thing to note from Majima Saga is that while he’s on his own, his personality is quite different. He hates the politics of the clan, but he’ll do his job. It’s not the first time he leaves a meeting before it ends either. In Majima Saga we learn he can’t stand Terada, mentions that all of his lieutenants are kiss-asses. He leaves the yakuza - to prevent a war, mind you - and starts up Majima construction. Sure, he’s restrained, at his limits, but you get to see a lot of his unfiltered personality come through in substories and his internal thoughts.įrom (Kiwami) 1 to (Kiwami) 2, we see Majima start to settle down. In my opinion, Yakuza 0 Majima is the closest we get to the “real” Majima. I think it’s pretty easy to compare 0 Majima to 4/5/6 Majima. Spoilers for the entire series, obviously.
